When I was younger, every year at Christmas, I would ask my mom what she wanted for Christmas, and every year I got the same answer: “Peace.” That was it. Plain and simple. I knew she would ask for the same thing every year, and every year my response was always the same too. “First of all, that’s not even a possibility for our family,” and second, “Really? Peace is truly what you want? Not a pretty new sweater, or even a new gadget in the kitchen?”
Now that I’m older, I totally get it. Feelings of peace and joy are often out of reach in our lives today, for a variety of reasons, yet we long to experience both. Families at odds, sickness, disease, debt, and so many other burdens threaten to rob us of the peace God longs to bring, especially at Christmas. Thankfully, I was wrong about peace and joy not existing for my family. And, I’d love to share with you how I attempt to let them shine now and throughout the year. May I share with you 4 Scriptures that can bring a little peace and joy back into your life
and the lives of your loved ones this holiday season?
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.” Colossians 3:15 Friends, we let the wrong things rule our hearts these days. We are all to often ruled by social media, TV, friends, and family who mean well, but often add to our stress. And so many other “things” rule us day in and day out. This Christmas season, ask God to let His peace rule your heart. And, as the verse follows up, thank Him too.
“They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it.” 1 Peter 3:11 Sometimes it takes the reminder, that we are to seek and pursue peace. The world naturally gravitates toward evil and chaos. If we are to find peace, we must take an active role to seek and pursue it. In your daily quiet time with the Lord, ask
Him to help you be more active in seeking the peace that He is longing to give you.
“Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7 All too often, we carry the burdens of the world, when we have been instructed by God to give them to Him. This is a command, not a suggestion. In your desire to be obedient this week, actively tell God you will give Him your burdens instead of trying to fix the world with your bare hands.
“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard
your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7 And this, my friend is the precious result. As you begin to allow the peace of Christ to rule in your hearts, seeking and pursuing His peace, and giving Him ALL your burdens, a peace that is truly unexplainable begins to flow in your heart, mind, and life. God is waiting to give you a priceless gift this holiday season. One that you can freely share with those you love.
