[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Has the question, “Are we merry yet?” been answered with a resounding, “Too merry!” Even the best of health and wellness plans can be derailed with the temptations of Grandma’s fudge, and one too many Christmas gatherings. But no worries, below I’m sharing my 4 Favorite Ways to Detox your Body after the Holidays. And bonus: virtually everything you need can be found in your kitchen, bedroom, or Bible! Read on to feel refreshed, energized, and ready to tackle this day, and everyday with complete success!
- GET ENOUGH REST “In returning and rest you shall be saved, in quietness and confidence, shall be your strength.” Found in the book of Isaiah, this verse speaks to the importance of the first key in detoxing the body of one of the major roadblocks to weight loss: Stress. A lack of sleep can derail a weight loss plan quicker than you can say “fat free dressing,” and the holidays can have us running in all directions, and finding very little time for sleep. Yet, sleep has been scientifically linked to improved mental health and weight loss. Adequate sleep helps to regulate the stress hormones in our bodies, and can you guess the end result? More sleep equals less stress eating! AND Less stress eating equals faster weight loss! How much is enough? Every night we should be aiming for 8 hours, but definitely trying not to get any less than 6.5!
- WATER The prophet Jeremiah speaks of God as the “Source of Living Water.” I love the correlation here. My soul cannot survive without the Living Water I find in God, and my physical body cannot survive without the water of this earth very long either. Water is truly underrated in the world of health and wellness, yet it is pivotal. Water flushes out the harmful toxins that build up in our vital organs and can cause seriously harmful, and lasting effects. One key to successful, lifelong weight loss can absolutely be found in that bottle of water. How much is enough? Aim for a gallon a day, but definitely try to get at least 80 ounces in!
- BOOST FRUIT AND VEGGIE INTAKE “All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful.” Spoken by Paul, these words ring true for those of us on a health and wellness journey. Even though, fried foods, and baked goodies tasted oh so good over the holidays, they can leave us feeling sluggish, irritable, and bloated. (It’s not just stress that causes these feelings, it’s truly what we eat as well.) If your eating routine has consisted of a few too many orders of french fries and hamburgers over the last few weeks, you can aide your body in getting rid of the the toxins that have built up simply by adding more fresh fruits and veggies to your diet. Both will provide the vitamins and nutrients needed to replenish your body. How much is enough? Aim for 4-5 fresh fruits a day, and double the veggies. If that sounds overwhelming, attempt to add fruit and veggies to your plate everytime you eat!
- THE WORD IS A POWERFUL ON A WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY “But seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.” Found in the book of Matthew, this verse speaks volumes about our need to seek God even on a weight loss journey. If left to ourselves, the priority of weight loss and healthy living slip away quickly when the journey seems too hard, or life gets too busy. But when we seek the Lord, and realize our health and wellness are pivotal to our work in the Kingdom, we find the lasting motivation and strength we need to continue the journey.
Be blessed today as you seek to simplify your health, wellness, and weight loss plan by ridding your body naturally of the harmful toxins, and filling it with the Living Water!
